Platinum prints, commonly referred to as platinotypes, are hand-coated photomechanical prints exhibiting a broad range (scale) of tones. These delicate tones range from creamy white highlights and expanded mid-tone grays, to deep rich blacks with great detail and tactile quality.
A mixed solution of platinum (and/or palladium) and iron salts are brushed onto a sheet of 100% cotton paper and dried. A large negative or multiple negatives (same size as finished print size) are placed in direct contact with the paper and exposed to ultraviolet light. The final print is formed of sub-microscopic crystals of pure platinum or palladium metals embedded in the paper fibre exhibiting exceptional three-dimensional quality and archival permanence.
A fine platinum print is more stable and double the value of gold. The platinum image, properly made, will outlive the fine paper it is printed on.
All personal work is produced in limited editions of twenty five prints in Platinum/Palladium metals.
